Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese term meaning "Universal Life Energy". Reiki is thought to be several thousand years old and references
can be found in ancient writings. Its origins were lost until the late 1800's when Dr Mikao Usui of Kyoto, Japan
rediscovered the roots of Reiki.
Over the course of several decades, Dr Usui performed an extensive study of ancient teachings as well as the
healing abilities of history's great spiritual leaders. Through his studies, he discovered a system of symbols and sounds which link to the human body and
nervous system and activate the universal life energy for healing. Dr Usui called this healing art "Reiki" and taught it throughout Japan. This tradition of healing
has been passed down through a number of "grandmasters" and the "Usui System of Natural Healing" is one of the principle forms of Reiki now being practiced.
Reiki practitioners, using specific techniques involving holding the hands on or above the body, channel energy to the recipient to restore balance and strengthen
the energy field. The recipient participates in this process by drawing in energy in response to the needs of the body.
Those receiving life energy through Reiki therapy experience relaxation and increased vitality,
enhancing the natural processes of renewal and removal of toxins. This, in
turn, promotes greater receptivity to receiving life energy.
Reiki is helpful in treating physical illness, injury and disease as well as stress and emotional and spiritual disorders.
